Deep Space Industries Opening Engineering Center in Luxembourg

Deep Space Industries (DSI), a subsidiary of Bradford Space, recently formalized support to build a small engineering and manufacturing center in Belval, Luxembourg. The new center will continue developing technology required for an affordable deep-space spacecraft platform. Ideally, this platform will lower the barrier for sending missions throughout the inner Solar System.

Founded in 2013, DSI originally focused on technology to mine metals and water from near-Earth asteroids. The materials would be used to build and refuel spacecraft in cislunar space. However, through multiple business and management changes, DSI was acquired by Bradford Space in early 2019 to aid the development of a spacecraft bus designed for operations in deep space.

This latest announcement shows that DSI may still have a shot at achieving parts of its original goals, while also providing a near term revenue stream.
